Latest round of Dangerous Designs winners
Launched in 2016, Dangerous Designs is an online competition to promote the use of wood and wood products in sustainable design and encourage the commercialisation of appropriate designs. The competition is sponsored by WoodSolutions, resourced by Forest and Wood Products Australia and supported by a wide range of professional organisations, including the Design Institute of Australia, the Australian Furniture Association, the Australian Institute of Architects and Planet Ark.
The latest bi-monthly Dangerous Designs winners are:
- Loft Bench by Scott van Tuil, in the Open category
- BD6touch by Troy Baverstock, in the Student category.
The standard of entries was exceptional and the judges congratulated all designers on their work. The annual winner will be announced at the Australian Timber Design Awards in Sydney, on Tuesday 16 October 2018.
The winner of the Open category prize, Scott van Tuil, designed a simple and strikingly beautiful bench out of veneer.

The winner of the Student category, Troy Baverstock, also complimented Dangerous Designs, saying that opportunities for students to expose their work to broader markets are limited.
Troy describes his winning design, BD6touch, as “a minimalist wooden music player inviting tactile interaction via wooden blocks, recapturing the hands-on charm of vinyl records with contemporary music formats”.
